The Edge is the chosen kite for racers around the world who are looking for peak performance. What does this mean for the Edge? Our current world championship-winning design will be offered until the spring of 2014. This will give racers the chance to try out, select, and practice on their gear for the race season starting in September 2014. New race gear will be registered with the IKA by March 2014 and then released shortly thereafter. With kiteboarding’s short-lived acceptance into the 2016 Olympics, the International Kiteboarding Association moved to standardize the release time line for race equipment. Also 7m and 9m sizes have been added to the line to allow a more perfect fit for the discerning rider. For 2014, aside from the color and printing changes, there are a few tweaks to the bridle to increase the power and low end. The new wing shape gave the kite faster turning speeds and more low-end power. The Catalyst underwent a big redesign for the 2013 season, and everybody loved the new design. If you push the kite, it responds and takes your riding to the next level. My favorite part about the Catalyst is that it’s a kite that will progress with you from the beginner stages all the way through advanced. Easy relaunch makes the Catalyst perfect for lessons or for those just starting out. For anyone looking to catch a wave, the smooth, predictable handling and depower permits you to ride the wave without continuously flying the kite. It has fast turning and an open-C shape that allows you to push your limits without the aggressive feel of a traditional C-kite. The Catalyst is also an excellent freestyle starting block. Costs for a custom logo generally start around $500 plus the cost of the kite. Recently we made a custom Zephyr with a giant skull and crossbones graphic that’s been very popular. Beyond custom colors, we can also include your own logo or design on the kite. One of the guys at the shop got his own custom-color Catalyst, and you can tell he’s riding from miles away. The cool thing about the custom colors, aside from personalizing your kite, is easy identification at the beach. It’s an additional $150 to the price of the kite for the customization. For custom-color kites, you can select your own color schemes for the different areas of the canopy within the existing pattern. The custom colors and logos look phenomenal, almost like stained glass. This means production with top-of-the-line materials is closely controlled, and the quality is second to none. The people in our factory build world-class paraglider wings as well as water, snow, and land kites. We own the factory that produces the kites.
I think the ability to offer custom kites is something that sets Ozone apart from other kite companies. The custom-color and custom-logo kites have been a very big hit.
